New Yorkers for Children’s annual fall gala sponsored by jewelry firm Circa attracted EVERYONE from Julie Macklowe and Tamara Mellon to new society fixtures Kanye West and Courtney Love on Tuesday. And regardless of their status on the social ladder, partygoers arrived at Cipriani 42nd Street in all manners of dress: full-length gown, chandelier earrings and fur (Alexandra Lebenthal in Angel Sanchez); slinky silver beading (Nora Zehetner in Calvin Klein Collection); not-so-subtle leopard print (Paz de la Huerta in Dolce & Gabbana), and sleek ready-to-wear (Wendi Murdoch in Thakoon).
Selita Ebanks emceed the evening and frequently urged guests to “give it up,” first for the PS 22 chorus, which sang “Imagine,” then for honoree and New York Giant Keith Bulluck and lastly for themselves. “You guys turned it out,” she told the crowd. “You all look fierce and gorgeous.”
Jamie Niven delivered his typically relentless but effective auction, raising $385,000 to fund children’s college educations and school supplies, and then Estelle took the stage for a quick two-song set. It was brief but, based on Christine Schwarzman and Kalliope Karella’s lip-synching to “American Boy,” every bit as satisfying.
Yet a social’s work is never done, and so several NYFC attendees made a point to hit Samantha Rosen, Christina Floyd Di Donna, Caryn Zucker and Catherine Malandrino’s shopping break luncheon at a spacious private residence the following afternoon. Serena Boardman, Coralie Charriol Paul, Cristina Greeven Cuomo and Kelly Rutherford perused racks of items from the designer’s Malandrino and Catherine Malandrino lines at a 15 percent discount, with 10 percent of sales going to Citymeals-on-Wheels. “I love uptown girls. I wanted to bring this to them in a warm, intimate space, that’s why I love this town house,” said Malandrino, who seemed to have made a speedy recovery from fashion week activities.
