Jason Wu’s St. Regis Soirée

Jaime King, China Chow and Shala Monroque helped Jason Wu start a new post-show tradition on Friday.

“You know what my after show tradition usually is? I have dinner with my mom,” Jason Wu said on Friday night at Adour Alain Ducasse at The St. Regis Hotel. “I know it sounds cheesy. But I only see my parents twice a year. I don’t have time to go to Taiwan very often.”

 

This season at least, Wu bucked personal custom and opted to hold his first-ever after party (which also served as honorary celebration as the hotel’s newest “connoisseur,” a title that will see him host the occasional Mrs. Astor-style midnight supper there).

 

China Chow, Shala Monroque, Lorenzo Martone, Siri Tollerød and Nacho Figueras mingled around the DJ booth, which had been covered in white hydrangeas per Wu’s request. Jaime King, who drank a “double water,” landed in New York on a red-eye flight to attend the designer’s afternoon show between promotional touring for her new series, “Hart of Dixie.”

 

“I leave New York tomorrow for my premiere,” she said, adding that her next stop on the party circuit was Gen Art. “I may come back for the Rodarte show if I can get off work.”

 

Martone, meanwhile, was trendspotting. “The Richard Chai show was great and Jason Wu was amazing,” he said. “The Asians are always rocking.”

 

The whole scene had Wu reflecting on his hosting style. “I never wanted to do a big after-party because I didn’t — I’m shy, I’m more subtle, and I like to be with my friends,” the designer said. “I wanted it to be tasteful, chic, intimate and special. I hope I did that tonight.”

 

He paused for a moment as the DJ played his runway soundtrack.

 

“Sorry — this is my show music,” he went on. “It’s so crazy because when I hear a song that I use in my show, it’s a deeply emotional experience. I get very attached to the collection, it’s been my brainchild for so many months... But you know, I like to think we’re rocking The St. Regis like it’s never seen before.”
