DESIGNER SPEAK: The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly on Saturday night on the seventh floor of the Giorgio Armani Hotel, where GQ hosted its traditional cocktail party. “The fact they chose my hotel for their party is extremely gratifying,” said Giorgio Armani, who once again showed his perfectionist streak. “I have to spend more time here, because I’ve noticed that there are still details that have to be fixed. I believe that if things are not done well, it’s better not to do them at all.”
Anna Zegna, Diego and Andrea Della Valle, Tomas Maier and Italo Zucchelli were among the guests. Frida Giannini, who arrived at the party with companion and Gucci chief executive officer Patrizio di Marco, gushed about the location and mused on brand extension. “Currently, we are not planning to invest in hotels, but I don’t rule out the possibility to work on this kind of project in the future. I think I would like to challenge my creativity with interior designing,” she said.
Free from runway commitments, Michael Bastian is in Milan for appointments. “I’m already selling the fall collection and I’m impressed by Korean clients,” he said. “Korea is definitely the new Japan.”
Costume National designer Ennio Capasa said he’s recently been working on costumes for a Hollywood icon: Brad Pitt. He designed some parkas for Pitt’s role as Gerry Lane in Marc Forster’s “World War Z.” “The interesting thing was it had to look stylish but destroyed at the same time,” said the designer, describing how he buried the garments in dirt for a week. “He always makes a kind of competition, he says to, I don’t know, 10 designers, ‘I want this, this and this’ and then says not to be offended if he doesn’t use it because he wants to [feel free to] wear what he wants,” added Capasa. “He’s very talented, I think he could be a designer or an artist.”
