BLONDE STREAKS: It was all about blondes on Saturday night in Paris as German Vogue toasted its March issue, a Mario Testino special fronted by Miley Cyrus cupping her breasts — and with her tongue in her mouth for a change.
Designers packed into the 1728 restaurant for a cocktail hosted by Testino and editor in chief Christiane Arp, a tall blonde easy to spot in a crowd including the likes of Karl Lagerfeld, Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren, Haider Ackermann, Andrew Gn, Valentino designers Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli, Fausto Puglisi, Jeremy Scott, Schiaparelli's Marco Zanini, Londoner Todd Lynn and New Yorker Prabul Gurung, whose spring 2014 show was dedicated to Marilyn Monroe.
Arp opted to wear a satin top by a young German designer, Kathleen König, who designs under the Haltbar label.
“Mario’s idea is that blonde isn’t a hair color; it’s a point of view,” Arp said. “Marlene Dietrich was the perfect example. She knew what she wanted and was powerful.”
“And there are blonde men too!” she exclaimed, catching sight of the curly locks of Pucci designer Peter Dundas.
Dark-haired Daniele Cavalli said he’s “working on a photography project that isn’t related to fashion,” since exiting the family house, Roberto Cavalli, where he had been creative director for men’s wear.
He’s also about to move to New York. “It is time for me to live the wonderful things of the world. I was born in fashion; for me it has been natural. I am curious of many different things. Maybe one day I will go back to it. Now I just want to enjoy the fun part,” he said.
On that note, Cavalli added that he loves blondes. “Now I have to prove it!” he said kissing his girlfriend, the Polish model Magdalena Frackowiak.
“I would love to be blonde,” mused catwalk star Ming Xi, who was wearing Chanel. “Maybe one day I can, after modeling.”
Jason Wu, whose mermaid chiffon dress was featured on Anja Rubik in the new issue of Vogue Germany, raved about Paris. “I love the romance of Paris. I love Angelina [tearoom and pastry shop]. I always get a Mont-blanc [pastry] there.”
