Chanel on the Sea

Chanel throws a fete in Malibu to toast its new J12 Marine watch.

Chanel’s Sunday night fete to toast its new J12 Marine watch was picture perfect. Held at Ron and Kelly Meyer’s Malibu home, the party was expertly staged down the last Chanel-emblazoned beach ball floating in the seaside pool. Even the family poodles took their places, politely greeting Rachel Bilson, Kristen Bell, Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber, January Jones, Brian Grazer, Anthony Kiedis and Robert Downey, Jr. as they approached the massive Charles Gwathmey designed manse.

Chanel ambassador and surf champ Laird Hamilton (“He’s maybe not the first guy you’d think of when you think Chanel,” said his wife Gabrielle Reece, “but he’s learning.”) later introduced the documentary “Hollywood Don’t Surf.” Guests cozied up on logoed blankets and oversized pillows for the outdoor screening, but Kristen Bell was feeling the chill in her strapless lace frock.

“You look like you need a coat,” said Meyer, who disappeared into the house and returned with a North Face parka. Others, like Liz Goldwyn, wrapped their shoulders in the black pashmina’s strewn over the sofas. “I thought maybe we’d be in the indoor screening room, but this is definitely more dramatic.”
