GRAY MATTER: Julie Verhoeven, Zaha Hadid, Ron Arad and David Byrne gathered Sunday night at London's Embankment Galleries to fete the designer's two newest ventures: The launch of a secondary line and Chayalan’s first standalone online store. “Having your own online store is every bit as interesting as launching a physical shop,” said the designer. “We've put so much time and effort into making our e-store particular to us, and right for the Chalayan customer.”
Chayalan also marked the launch of his Grey Line, which was on display at the party. He tapped into Facebook to find eight up-and-coming photographers, stylists, and bloggers to interpret the collection in their own way, with the results displayed on screens.
The photographer Rosa Rendo was one of the eight, and she shot the clothes against a white backdrop and with romantic lighting. “I’m really into very simple fashion, and I wanted to let Hussein’s clothes speak for themselves, so all I needed was a blank space, and a good model to work with.”
Later in the evening, the Tiny Dragons took to the stage for a charged set that had everyone on their feet.
