On Wednesday, the Council of Fashion Designers of America made its annual West Coast sojourn for a fashion show and afternoon tea feting CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalists Juan Carlos Obando; Marc Alary; Misha Nonoo of Nonoo; Shimon and Ariel Ovadia of Ovadia & Sons; Jason Jones of Parabellum; Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne of Public School; Tim Coppens; Todd Snyder; Ryan Lobo and Roman Martin of Tome, and Veronica Miele Beard and Veronica Swanson Beard of Veronica Beard.
“It’s actually one of the few times we get to hang out with one another,” said Martin. “Today we all had lunch, tonight we’re having dinner. It’s way more relaxed than New York. After two days here, I’m thinking of decamping.”
The sunny garden of West Hollywood’s Chateau Marmont no doubt added to the fairy-tale vibe, as did a front row packed with the likes of David and Victoria Beckham, Lena Dunham, Diane Kruger, Olivia Wilde, Rachel Bilson, Lizzy Caplan, Ireland Baldwin, Gabriel Mann, Dakota Johnson, Milla Jovovich, Marisa Tomei, Maria Sharapova and Jessica Paré.
“I’m going to take far better notes this year,” Mary Elizabeth Winstead said of the clothes and accessories coming down the runway. “I saw plenty that I liked last year, but I wasn’t quick enough on the draw.”
Hosted by Diane von Furstenberg, Mark Holgate and Lisa Love, and Federico Marchetti, the crowd was also designer heavy, and included past finalists Greg Chait, Irene Neuwirth, Gregory Parkinson, Monique Péan, Jennifer Meyer Maguire and George Esquivel, as well as Ken Downing, Reed Krakoff, Jenna Lyons, Rachel Roy, Scott Sternberg and Laura and Kate Mulleavy.
After the show, designers and their would-be muses got to mingle. “I loved your things,” Johnson told Alary. Even David Beckham got in the game, chatting up the Ovadia twins. “Those were some great-looking suits,” he offered.
