Thursday evening, Prosper and Martine Assouline baptized the Plaza Hotel with the opening of the book publisher's first American store.
And as would be expected, the crowd was predominantly French-fluent, along with a solid turnout of some of Assouline's gaggle of glamorous authors and subjects, including Carolina Herrera, Kalliope Karella, Bettina Zilkha and
Daniel Boulud. Lee Radziwill, just in from Paris, was on hand to pen copies of her tome "Happy Times." Fortunately, no carpel tunnel syndrome ensued.
"There aren't that many to sign," she laughed.
