Florence is gearing up for Pitti Immagine Uomo, Europe’s largest men’s trade show, and its women’s counterpart, Pitti W, set to run Tuesday through Jan. 14. A hectic schedule of events, both within and outside the walls of Fortezza da Basso, will spice up the atmosphere. Here are several highlights.

Tuesday, Jan. 11
Fashion, Food and Art

For Trussardi’s 100th anniversary, the Nicola Trussardi Foundation partnered with Pitti Discovery Foundation to create an exhibition called “8 1/2,” a title inspired by Federico Fellini’s legendary film. The exhibition, set in the naves of the 17th-century former train station Stazione Leopolda in the city center, will include the works of 13 international artists including Darren Almond, Pawel Althamer, Tacita Dean and Italians Maurizio Cattelan and Paola Pivi. Inauguration: 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Stazione Leopolda, 5 Via Fratelli Rosselli, Florence. Exhibit: Jan. 13 to Feb. 6.

In the evening, there will be the launch of Liberty of London’s men’s collection with a live performance by pianist Miles Dalto and DJ Cato. 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Harold Acton Library, 9 Lungarno Guicciardini, Florence.

Alberta Ferretti will show 30 special edition looks, described by the designer as “demi-couture,” during a runway show that will feature not only models, but Italian actresses, socialites and bloggers, as well. 8 p.m. Santo Stefano al Ponte Church, Santo Stefano Square, Florence.

Brunello Cucinelli will host a private dinner in the Palazzo Gianfigliazzi, an elegant 13th-century palace located in the heart of Florence. 8:30 p.m. Palazzo Gianfigliazzi, 4 Lungarno Corsini, Florence.

Wednesday, Jan. 12
Retail and Runway

The biggest events are in the late afternoon, starting with the opening of the first Marithé + François Girbaud store in Florence, during which the French duo will present the fall-winter 2011-2012 men’s collection. The boutique combines the historical details of the 13th-century building with a new urban concept and will house all women’s collections, from denim to the main line.

Shortly afterward, Trussardi 1911 will hold its men’s collection show. 7 p.m. Stazione Leopolda, 5 Via Fratelli Rosselli, Florence.

Thursday, Jan. 13
Pitti W Takes Center Stage

The eighth-century tower of Orsanmichele church will play host to British designer Gareth Pugh, who was tapped to headline Pitti W. Pugh will hold a special event and preview a film shot in Florence. 10 p.m. to 12 a.m. Orsanmichele church, 7 Via Orsanmichele, Florence.
