An exhibition dedicated to women photographers who worked for Life Magazine marks the 75th anniversary of the magazine at Spazio Forma, an art gallery specializing in photography.

Called “Donne di Life,” the show features 35 images, which are silver prints from the original negatives held at the Life Gallery of Photography in New York, by Margaret Bourke-White, Nina Leen, Lisa Larsen and Martha Holmes.

Bourke-White, a pioneer of photojournalism, shot the first cover of Life in 1936, depicting the Fort Peck dam. The photos captured the essence of the American woman and her transformation from housewife to executive.

A standout image is that of Jacqueline and John Kennedy at their wedding, photographed by “glamour girl” Lisa Larsen, who worked over the years for Vogue, Glamour and The New York Times.

The show also highlights several celebrated portraits of women by Alfred Eisenstaedt, reporting women’s evolution in the last century.

All the prints are for sale starting from 1,500 euros, or $1,978 at current exchange.

ENCHANTED LAND

The new year brought a new luxury hotel to Milan — whether for princesses or their, ahem, frogs. With the idea of recreating a fairy tale mood in a romantic castle, the Château Monfort opened last month.

The hotel, a few steps from the central Piazza San Babila shopping area, is located in a Liberty-style historical building designed by celebrated Italian architect Paolo Mezzanotte, whose blueprint for the stock exchange building stands nearby. The edifice features five levels and 77 rooms, including three junior suites dedicated to lyrical operas “Turandot,”  “La Traviata” and “Madama Butterfly” and suites dedicated to “Cinderella” and “La Bohème.”

Architect Sofia Gioia Vedani, chief executive officer of developer Planetaria Hotels, designed the venue. Vedani also gave the restaurant and the common spaces fairy tale-themed monikers, such as Sala dell’Incantesimo (“Chamber of the Spell”). Guest Rooms mix high-tech and dreamy decorations, like a bed made to look like a hibiscus with wood owls staring behind mirrors and cabinets.

There’s a new treat available in Milan’s golden shopping triangle: Acqua di Parma’s two-week-old boutique on Via Gesù in Milan, on the corner of Via Montenapoleone, offers some exclusive pampering.

“With this new boutique, we wish to conjure up a special place, an elegant, refined mansion in which our customers can rediscover the style and values of the brand with which they identify themselves,” said Gabriella Scarpa, president of the Italian luxury company, known for its array of fragrances, shaving products and cosmetics, and various accessories in terry cloth and leather.

Scarpa added that the new store would serve as a model for additional Acqua di Parma openings worldwide.

The store is outfitted with a minimalist interior featuring a Calacatta marble floor with mosaic inlays, oak parquet, stucco and the brand’s signature yellow. The interior recalls historic buildings in Parma. Architects from Kirei Studio in Paris and JR Studio in Milan worked on the store concept.

To celebrate the Via Gesù opening, Acqua di Parma created a limited edition of its Colonia fragrance — a 6.1-oz. Art Deco bottle with a silver label, presented in a leather case — and a 20-pound Jumbo Cube candle in hand-molded black wax, available for 420 euros ($555 at current exchange).

Customers can enjoy a full range of amenities, from a special barber service in a space dedicated to the brand’s Collezioni Barbiere of shaving products, to hand massages at the Blu Mediterraneo Italian Resort area of the store, and home delivery of products courtesy of the Acqua di Parma yellow Fiat 500.

Acqua di Parma, founded in 1916, has been part of LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton since 2001. All of its products are manufactured in Italy, and distributed in 37 countries.
