OSAKA: This creative spot in flourishing Palermo Hollywood has some of the best sushi in town, but goes beyond Japanese with Thai, Chinese and Peruvian food. With a zen-chic style, the kitchen by international executive chef Jan Van Oordt offers a wide selection of sushi, salads and hot courses with an Asian twist. At night, the bar offers bold, not-so-classic drinks, like a version of “Tai-chi” with sake, orange, Chinese cinnamon and cranberry juice.
EL BISTRO: Awarded a five-star honor by the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences, El Bistro, a stunning “Alice in Wonderland”-inspired white room, is the jewel of the Faena Hotel + Universe. With an eclectic menu, outstanding wait staff (who all speak English) and high-fashion clientele, the glamorous and trendy Philippe Starck-designed space is aimed at those who seek the unexpected, and a hot spot among Argentine restaurants. Chef Mariano Cid de la Paz offers specialties like grilled black rice with octopus sashimi and sole with lemon puree and oysters.
MARK’S DELI: Need something to eat while shopping at stylish Palermo Soho? The first deli in the area, Mark’s big sandwiches and salads draw crowds for all-day munching, with top-quality ingredients and inventive combinations. Tastefully mismatched tables, chairs and sofas dot the room, and there’s a small sun patio outside. The cheesecake alone is worth the visit.
LAS OREIRO: A few blocks from Mark’s in Palermo Soho, the new Las Oreiro women’s fashion store is inspired by American movie stars of the Forties and Fifties, like Veronica Lake and Lauren Bacall. The concept recalls the aura of these sensual, refined but intense stars, with designs in satin, silk and patent leather.
JUANA DE ARCO: Also in the Palermo District, Juana de Arco features innerwear as well as its own clothing line. Characterized by offbeat prints and mix-and-match patchwork garments, the label features natural materials, with garments in organic cotton and embroidered images of fish, sea horses and flowers.
