Here’s some of what what was played at the better known New York clubs of the 1970s. Though many playlists from Studio 54 turn up in Vince Aletti’s new book, “The Disco Files,” we’ve skipped it here, because  the midtown club was less about the music than the velvet rope and stars like Diana Ross, Yves Saint Laurent, Halston, and Liza Minelli. At the Paradise Garage, you might have bumped into everyone from Keith Haring to Grace Jones to Madonna, but it was all about what you were dancing to. Here’s a sampling from Aletti’s book.
