Whether her look on the runway is retro, sleek or edgy, 19-year-old Kasia Wrobel always maintains an element of delicate elegance. Designers responded to her refined features, ethereal visage and chameleonlike versatility in her first season as a full-time model. Kasia opened Jil Sander, closed Les Copains, was cast in both Marc Jacobs and Marc by Marc Jacobs, and walked the likes of Alexander McQueen, Marni, Haider Ackermann, Sonia Rykiel and Rochas.

How did you get into modeling?

“It was my sister’s idea. She took pictures of me and sent them to a Polish teen magazine that was holding a modeling competition.”

What was it like opening Jil Sander?

“I’ve never opened any show before Jil Sander, so it was my first time. I cannot deny that I was very stressed, but at the same time, I was telling myself that a situation like this may never happen to me again, that it is a once-in-a-lifetime experience and I should enjoy it. And so I did — my first few steps on the runway were extremely stressful, but then it was all pleasure.”

Do you have any funny runway stories or any moments that stand out?

“Luckily, I have never fallen on the runway. I did trip once or twice because of the height of the shoes I was asked to wear, but that’s really it.”

Who are your favorite designers?

“I LOVE Jil Sander and Marc Jacobs! Another favorite of mine would be Alexander McQueen — because each piece the brand makes is unique, and each collection is breathtaking. I always look forward to seeing the new [collection]. I’m also in love with Chloé and Balmain.”

How would you describe your personal style?

“Comfortable but elegant would be the two words. Of course, I dress differently during my free time and when I go on castings, but in both situations my priority is to feel good. The clothes I’m wearing each day also depend on my mood in the morning, though, so I cannot say that I’m very faithful to any style of dressing.”

What are your favorite wardrobe pieces?

“Button-down shirts with jeans or black pants.”

Who are you listening to on your iPod?

“Queen, Pink Floyd, Dire Straits, numerous movie soundtracks like ‘Amélie’ from Montmartre, ‘The Lord of the Rings,’ ‘Frida,’ ‘Finding Neverland’ and ‘Memoirs of a Geisha.’”

What do you spend your free time doing when you’re not modeling?

“Cycling, jogging, going to the cinema and reading.”

Where do you see yourself in your career in five years?

“Hopefully, at that time I’ll be sharing my time between modeling and medical studies.”

Medical studies?

“I want to be a doctor one day, but I haven’t chosen a specialty yet. It’s too soon. I think that when I start studying and then practicing, I’ll be able to see what I’m good at and what interests me the most. Being a doctor means lifelong learning, since medicine is evolving all the time — which is great, of course. I want to make sure I choose the right thing.”
