“Terrorism Makes German Public Shun Jewish Stores” read the headline on March 23, 1933. WWD correspondent B.J. Perkins, writing from Berlin, went on to detail the Nazi brutalities against Jewish retailers, describing the Third Reich soldiers as “brown-shirted youths who need to be spanked.” Days later, Perkins was himself threatened while standing outside a Jewish shop.
