PARIS – The Maison + Objet trade fair, which ends its five-day run here Tuesday, took a step away from in-your-face design.
Spanning home decoration and furnishing as well as design objects, the show was awash delicate reinterpretations of the familiar and the generic.
Examples include irregular shaped classic tumblers or wine carafes at Ozgen that were manipulated shapes of Bordeaux and Bourgogne wine bottles; Swedish company Design House Stockholm with its variations on the Scandinavian chair; or Tomas Alonso’s cutlery for Italesse that resembles a picnic set.
The outdoor theme was popular, spanning cool cooking utensils and barbecue sets by Snowpeak or lunch box sets from Japanese company Jia.
Grid-like motifs enlivened chic designs like limited-edition carpets by Emmanuel Babled for I + I, or delicate new vases with trellises in transparent glass by 5.5 Designers.
Other highlights at the giant show ranged from innovative earthenware and porcelain – from paper-thin or lacelike to chunky – and refreshed “heritage” products, including ecological frying pans from Mauviel, Japanese-style ceramic knives from Déglon or woven outdoor furniture from Drucker Paris, which update its iconic armchairs.
On the fashion side, the Campana brothers unveiled their foray into jewelry with exotic skin necklaces with a magnet closure system.
