Peter Morrone, Designer and Marketer, Dies at 74

He held executive positions at Russ Togs, Danskin and Capezio.

Peter Morrone, a long-time designer, merchandiser and marketer for intimate apparel and activewear, died of a heart attack on Nov. 28 at Stony Brook University Medical Center on Long Island. He was 74.

Morrone was director of design at Russ Togs from 1967 to 1977 and a vice president at Danskin from 1977 to 1988 before serving as chairman of the Department of Fashion at Virginia Commonwealth University from 1988 to 1991. Morrone then joined Capezio, where he was vice president of design merchandising and marketing until 2002.

A graduate of Manhattan College, Morrone was a professor emeritus at Virginia Commonwealth and had been an instructor at Parsons School of Design, LIM and the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York.

Since leaving Capezio, he also worked as a consultant to fashion companies. Morrone is survived by his wife, Jean, two sons, Marc and Peter Jr., a daughter, Beth, and five grandchildren. A memorial service was held Nov. 30 at the Frank E. Campbell funeral home in Manhattan.
