Retail Apparel Prices Slow Pace in January

January retail prices for women’s and girls’ apparel rose a seasonally adjusted 0.2 percent, compared with December. The rise marked a slowdown from increases of 0.8 percent in both November and December.

Prices on all goods and services increased 0.4 percent last month, following a rise of 0.4 percent in December and 0.9 percent in November, according to the Labor Department’s Consumer Price Index, released Wednesday.

The so-called core prices, which exclude the volatile food and energy areas, rose 0.3 percent, an acceleration following nine straight months of 0.2 percent increases.
