- L.A. PORT TALKS: Negotiations for a new contract between West Coast longshoremen and shipping companies kicked off Monday. The contract expires July 1, but the early start date is viewed as a step toward avoiding a repeat of a 10-day lockout in 2002 that cost the U.S. economy an estimated $15 billion. A deal between the International Longshore and Warehouse Union and the Pacific Maritime Association would cover some 25,000 union employees at 29 ports in California, Oregon and Washington.
- VALENTINO CHAIRMAN: Valentino's board has appointed Stefano Sassi as chairman of the Rome-based brand, replacing Matteo Marzotto, who stepped down last month after he sold his shares to Permira. Sassi will continue to be Valentino's chief executive officer, a post he also holds at Valentino Fashion Group.
- ENNALS IN AT COLE HAAN: Accessories firm Cole Haan has named Ford Ennals to the newly created post of president of global commerce. Ennals, who has 20 years of experience in managing worldwide brands, reports to chief executive officer Jim Seuss. His last stint was at Digital UK, where he was ceo for the broadcasting network. Ennals will oversee global sales operations for wholesale and retail, leading digital commerce and directing Cole Haan Japan, International and Licensing.
