“It’s all about a wash of color,” said Charlotte Tilbury as she created what she termed “dreamy garden nymph” makeup looks at Jill Stuart’s show Monday.

Using Stuart’s own makeup line — which launched last year in Japan and is slated for a spring 2009 U.S. debut — Tilbury concocted shimmering lip colors using a bit of Vaseline or pale pink lip gloss (depending on the model’s lip tone) mixed with two to three shades of Stuart’s sparkling eye shadows. Some models had a lilac-pink version, others a champagne pink. Eyes were swept with a silvery-white sparkling eye shadow, while cheeks got a pop of cotton-candy pink.

“I’m seeing pastels and metallics as the makeup trends of the season,” said Tilbury, who noted that she plans to do a lilac metallic lip at Zac Posen and silver shimmer at Behnaz Sarafpour. And there’s an added bonus to metallics on the lips: “Shine and shimmer make lips look bigger because they catch the light so effectively,” she said.

Bob Recine added a layer to the dreamy mood with simple ponys finished with loose strands around the face.

“We’re calling it ‘mist,’” said Recine, as he pulled hair back, secured it with hooked elastics and pulled strands out to both frame and lightly cover the face, almost like a veil. The “mist” was flatironed, with the entire head getting a spritz of L’Oréal Professionnel’s Infinium hairspray to finish.
