NEW YORK -- Carol J. Hamilton has been promoted to president of L'Oreal Paris, the French beauty giant's mass market cosmetics brand.

Hamilton has been senior vice president and general manager of the L'Oreal Paris Brand Division. Her new position encompasses duties previously handled by Joseph Campinell before he was elevated to president of L'Oreal Consumer Products Division. Hamilton will continue to report to him.

She joined L'Oreal USA in 1984 as director of marketing for the former L'Oreal Cosmetic Division, which was merged in 1996 with L'Oreal Hair Care. Hamilton was promoted to senior vice president of marketing for the combined L'Oreal Paris Brand division at that time, and then named general manager in 2000.

"Carol's marketing talent and business skills have contributed greatly to L'Oreal brand's consistent growth in the U.S.," said Jean-Paul Agon, president and ceo of L'Oreal USA. "Among her many successes, she can be credited with developing L'Oreal's hair color business into the number-one position in the U.S."
